I hope you have all had a lovely summer break and enjoyed the holidays. I am sure you are all ready for the children to be back at school and pre-school and start a new academic year!
A fond farewell to our pre-school leavers, we will be thinking of you all on your first day at “big school”, hope to see you all soon.
As we say goodbye to some, we also welcome new faces, I am sure you will all join me in giving a warm welcome to our new pre-school children over the coming weeks, we look forward to settling you all in over the new term.
The same old faces will be here to care for the children! myself, Gail-Deputy, Liz and Leanne. Suzana will also continue working as a pre-school assistant on a weekly basis and providing cover when necessary and we welcome a new member of the team, Marita Wiliams who will be supporting us in the setting.
I have sent out our letter/number/colour of the week however, a copy will be on our notice board. This is what we will focus on during the week in discussions, games and play. If you would like to bring in an item from home beginning with the letter of the week for your child to use in “show and tell” this is a great way to extend their learning at home and reiterate what we are focusing on in pre-school. Show and Tell will be done at different times throughout the week rather than a specific day so that children attending different days get the opportunity to participate. The objective is to encourage your child to build their confidence, self esteem, support speech and language and social skills within small groups so don’t worry too much about what the item brought from home is or if it is forgotten, we will always support them you choose something form pre-school resources or just tell news from home.
Our theme for our first term is “My Body , Myself”, in this topic we talk about our bodies, our similarities and differences, what makes us unique, how to be healthy and our Families amongst other things, it’s a great topic for the beginning of a new year to support children in being positive about themselves and respecting others. Please bring in a couple of Family photos for your child to use during activities throughout the term; we will keep these in their busy boxes.
As we all know, the weather is very unpredictable at the moment, please ensure your child has a raincoat and wellingtons as we will be using the outside area and the grass can be very wet. A change of clothes would be useful in their bag particularly for any toilet training, lots of spares please! I can’t stress enough, please use old clothes for pre-school, we will be doing lots of messy activities both in and outdoors and using lots of paints, glue and getting dirty. We do use aprons however; these don’t stop the children from getting things everywhere! If you could label bags, coats, wellies etc. it would be helpful as there will be lots of new bags and coats that we don’t recognise and time is always of the essence when supporting children’s independence putting their own shoes and coats on!.
I have a couple of dates coming up to let you all know about, Saturday 12th November I have Joanne Bryant the Photographer coming in, this is a great fundraiser for pre-school as nobody else has to get involved and do anything and Joanne very kindly donates a percentage of her orders to pre-school. Those that have used Joanne before know she does great photos at really reasonable prices, if you are interested please see Vicki to book a slot and pay your deposit, please spread the word to others as this is not just for pre-school, it is open for anybody so if you know of anyone who may like to have individual or family portraits done let them know, it’s a great idea for Christmas presents.
Thursday 17th November is the Winter Wonderland that aims to provide a fun night of shopping experience with lots of different stalls providing crafts and other items for Christmas gifts. Leanne has worked really hard behind the scenes organising this so please, again support the event and spread the word to friends and family as fundraisers are what we rely on to provide resources for your children and make improvements to our pre-school. Tickets will be on sale before the event, we will keep you informed.
I am sure I will have lots more information for you over the coming weeks but I think that’s enough for now!
If you wish to contact myself during pre-school hours my number is Vicki-07854422418 alternatively, Gail the Deputy, particularly during pre-school hours on a Thursday as Gail runs the session on Thursdays-07989 244328.
I look forward to welcoming the children back and seeing you all in pre-school.
